Road to Recovery Financial Review article

This article appeared in the Australian Financial Review 3 January 2014. It first appeared in the Griffith Review 10th anniversary edition in 2013.This story is an edited version of a piece that will be published in 2015, in an upcoming book entitled ‘Burned Man’.

  1. Further reflections:

    1. The clarity and tonal consistency throughout this longer-than-usual piece suggest the calm hand of a good editor. Don’t leave home without him or her.

    2. What makes this piece shine is the extended quality and complexity of life lived and experienced. It quite offsets the dragging anchor of what I’ve thought of as your dream-like “visionary first-person present” which finds best expression in your poetry rather than narrative. Again I think credit could be due to that good editor.
